Many times clients ask us what do we recommend for the best clothing options. Below are some tips and we've also included a Pinterest board for Clothing Ideas
Keeping in mind the selected location and season, start with one person in the family. Start by selecting a color palette that will look well with the family complexion, colors to match the home decor and then coordinate with the additional outfits.
Then start to come up with ideas to personalize the session. Be sure to discuss your ideas with family and us! It’s nice to involve the family for ideas and create a custom portrait session.

- Coordinate outfits: We don't have to 100% match with khaki pants or jeans and a white shirt, you'll want to complement outfits by selecting colors that work well together.
- Texture and Patterns: Colors are all around us… why not add a pop of color to your portraits as well! Color coordinate with each other and add texture such as lace, corduroy, denim, etc. Avoid large logo’s, emblems and graphics such as ”Aeropostale" or “Nike” because this will take the attention away from the main subject. We want capture family portraits, not an ad to promote the clothing you purchased! Unless thats what you'd like to do.
- Timeless looks: We prefer outfits that are not too trendy, but will still have an appreciation when looking back at the portraits for many years to come. Jeans are classic and can be incorporated with a variety of fabrics, textures and accessories.
- Show your true colors!! Personality: We want to capture each individual as they truly are and it doesn't make sense to force children to wear outfits that are uncomfortable and which may cause stress and anxiety which will in turn create horrible portraits! Wear clothing that is comfortable which will create smiles and happy feelings. Remember, the most important thing is to capture the moments.
#1 Think about your photos and everything you want from the session
#2 No rushing and stressing out right before your session
#3 Avoid any new looks or a drastic change in hair color or hair cut before a portrait session
#4 Keep makeup natural, avoid using very heavy makeup. A pop of color on lips, eyes, and cheeks will accentuate your appearance
#5 Outfit changes If time allows it, bring another set of outfits. Again, you will get a lot more variety in your shots so why not capitalize on the opportunity and get the most bang for your buck
#6 High Heels and uncomfortable shoes! Shoes make the outfit, however they may make for a very long and painful session if you're in pain from wearing heels, be sure to bring a pair of flats or flip flops that can help you get from point A to point B without any pain. You can just swap them out as you need to. We also do bare feet in pictures in the Summer months as well, but make sure nails are painted!
